The painting included in this post is one of six works of art by Richard Blauvelt Coe, recently donated to the DAC Foundation by the family of Margaret Ellen Coe Cairnes. The DAC Foundation Collection of works by Coe now includes six oil paintings, two watercolor paintings, eight drypoint etchings, and a collection of pencil sketches.

This painting is an excellent addition to our growing collection of oil landscapes. This gift is another example of the DAC Foundation's ongoing effort to bring DAC-related artwork by Alabama artists to the state where the artist was born and raised. Richard Coe was born and raised in Selma, Alabama. The Coe family moved to Selma, Alabama, from Ramapo, New York, in the early 1860s.

Next week, we will be "On the Road in Selma, Alabama," where we will begin working on plans for a future exhibition titled: "COE: A RETROSPECTIVE." This exhibition will feature artworks created by Coe over a period of more than 40 years, rare vintage photographs of him and his family, and a narrative about his life and career.
