Our second stop on our trip through Georgia and the Carolinas was Greenville, South Carolina. While in Greenville, we visited the Greenville Center for Creative Arts. The center is in a historic textile mill complex in Greenville's West Village neighborhood. Founded by artists, educators, and community leaders, the GCCA was designed to enrich the community's cultural landscape.

The center offers art classes, workshops, and high-profile free exhibitions open to the public. It also houses affordable artist studios and operates community-focused initiatives like the Brandon Fellowship for Emerging Artists. The complex also includes the West Village Lofts, offering one, two, and three-bedroom apartments.

While in Greenville, we also visited the Greenville County Museum of Art located on Heritage Green in downtown Greenville. The GCMA is best known for its American art, particularly its Andrew Wyeth collection. The collection includes examples from every significant period of Wyeth's career. It is considered the largest Andrew Wyeth collection of any public institution in the world. Small works by well-known artists, such as Edward Hopper, Charles Burchfield, Childe Hassam, and Thomas Hart Benton, are included in the collection. The collection also includes works by DAC-related artists Anne Wilson Goldthwaite and Carlos Alpha "Shiney" Moon, both represented in the DAC Foundation Collection.Three area artists and collectors met in 1935 to form the Greenville Fine Arts League. The art association acquired its first permanent home with the purchase of the Gassaway Mansion in 1958. Five years later, the South Carolina General Assembly established the Greenville County Museum Commission as the governing body of the Greenville County Museum of Art. The Museum's operations are funded by Greenville County taxpayers, while private sources fund programs and art purchases.
