Artist, Art Promoter, and Registrar for the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
Elizabeth Metcalf was born in June of 1909 in Montgomery, Alabama. Metcalf was well-known for supporting the arts. She studied art at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, the Tyler Art School in Philadelphia, and with Kelly Fitzpatrick. She was a participant in the Dixie Art Colony and one of the Alabama Art League and Montgomery Art Guild founders.
Metcalf also served as the Registrar for the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for 14 years. She was a key player during the early years of the museum. Through this position, she was instrumental in the formation of museum collections and programs. Metcalf also served as an instructor at the Montgomery Museum School.
She passed away on April 21, 1981, in Montgomery, Alabama.
