William H. Krippendorf was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 4, 1864. Some art auction records incorrectly note his year of birth as 1910. He was the son of William Adolf Krippendorf, born in 1825 in Eckersberg, Germany. His father, William Adolf, was also an artist.
Krippendorf married Maude A. Guest on August 21, 1895, in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and moved to the Cleveland area around 1900. He passed away on January 13, 1942, at the age of 77.
