The Dixie Archives

Original Artwork

Shown are a few examples of the original artwork in our permanent collection related to the Dixie Art Colony. We have worked diligently to assemble a collection of original artwork by Dixie Art Colony artists. The collection is made up of donated work and purchases. While we are particularly interested in works of art that we believe were executed at the Dixie colony, we are also interested acquiring other works by the Dixie colony artists and artists that participated in the south Alabama colony known as the Bayou Painters.

Works by the following Dixie related artists are included in our permanent collection:
John Kelly Fitzpatrick, Warree Carmichael LeBron, Carlos Alpha (Shiney) Moon, Genevieve McClure Southerland,  Arthur Walter Stewart, Louise Smith Everton, Karl Ferdinand Wolfe, Mildred Nungester Wolfe, Frank Woodberry Applebee, Walter Lee Keith, William (Billy) Symington Wilson, Elizabeth Metcalf, Richard Blauvelt Coe, and Anne Wilson Goldthwaite.

NOTE: Artwork donated for inclusion in our permanent collection is considered a tax-deductible donation.

More About the Scrapbooks

Many of the scrapbooks which include newspaper articles, brochures, postcards, letters, sketches, and photographs contain items which have never been seen before by the general public. We are working to carefully digitize each item and preserve them for future generations.

The DAC Foundation has assembled numerous examples of Dixie Art Colony related collectables including items ounce owned by the colonists, books, magazines and a variety of ephemera including brochures, cards, and notes and letters to and from colonists.
