Lunch & Learn: All About Portraiture

—Painting shown above: Anne Goldthwaite, Chief Justice George Goldthwaite, oil on canvas.

Join us at the Alabama Supreme Court building in downtown Montgomery at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 19 for a private tour of the Junius Moore Riggs Portrait Collection.

At this program, our first in a series of programs dedicated to portraiture, Tim Lewis, Director at the Alabama Supreme Court & State Law Library, will show us the Anne Wilson Goldthwaite portrait of her grandfather Chief Justice George Goldthwaite. This painting was one of many fine portraits included in our recent "Tallassee NOW" exhibition. The Junius Moore Riggs Portrait Collection which we will view at the Alabama Supreme Court building consists of over 130 portraits of Alabama governors, chief justices, and appellate judges.

In addition to the Goldthwaite portrait, we will also see portraits by William Frye and Nicola Marschall both very prominent early portrait painters that ounce called Alabama home, but were not participants in the Dixie Art Colony.

We will begin taking reservations for our Wednesday, July 19 "Lunch & Learn" program at 7:00 am on Thursday, July 6. A limited number of reservations are available. To make your reservation, beginning at 7:00 am on Thursday, July 6, contact us by email at info@DixieArtColony.org

More details regarding lunch and parking will be forthcoming. Our tour guide, Tim Lewis, is also a member of the DAC Foundation Board of Trustees.

We have exceeded the number of reservations we can take for our July 19 Lunch & Learn program at the Alabama Supreme Court and currently have a waiting list.
