Notes From Our Supporters

—by Mark Harris, Founder & Director of the DAC Foundation

As we move forward in our fourth year, one of the most rewarding aspects of this journey is when we receive confirmation that we have in some way brightened someone’s day.

Since launching the Dixie Art Colony Foundation website in December of 2015, we started receiving emails and telephone calls from across the country. Since January of 2019, the frequency of the emails and telephone calls has increased substantially.

Below are three examples of notes we have received from supporters through our Dixie Art Colony Foundation website:

Hello,

I am Donnave Lindsey’s granddaughter, through her second marriage. I was looking on the Internet searching for art schools for my son to visit when I came across New York’s Students Art League and thought of Donnave. Somehow I stumbled upon your website! It was exciting to see Donnave’s beautiful face and bio. It was most thrilling to read the article published long ago about her. I passed the information on to my mother. I am going to share it with my son after school today.

I wanted to let you know your website brought many family members joy today!

Thank you,

C. Wilken, Florida

What a treat to see some of my grandfather’s work here that is new to my eyes and for his birthday to be recognized! Thanks so much for creating this website and all the hard work you have done in preserving the memory of the Dixie Art Colony and the artists who created it and kept it going.

Mark,

I apologize for my delay in letting you know that this link has brought a lot of joy to a lot of folks this week!  Thank you so much!

I am thrilled to be seeing these works by Norma that I have never seen before (they were done before I was born).  I shared the link with Norma’s best friend, who wrote that she shared it with several others who knew and visited Norma.  So very appreciative that you were able to include the old photographs — which dear friends of Norma’s had never seen — as well as more recent ones.

My gratitude to both you and Kim for your friendships with Norma and valuing her art!

Our DAC Foundation website and Facebook page have served us well. As time goes by, will continue to share more of the notes we have received from our Dixie Art Colony Foundation supporters. Soon we will also begin sharing information about some of the many telephone calls and visits we have received and how they have led to some very interesting discoveries.

Thank you to all for your kind notes and telephone calls!  We love hearing from you.

Mother’s joy when she spoke of Kelly was infectious. She loved the Dixie Art Colony. All the treasures she saved reflect that. Learning what she experienced has been so valuable. Being with Norma to hear her stories has enlightened my life. I treasure all Mark Harris has done and will do.
