DAC Foundation Featured at the BMA

August 2, 2018, was a great day for the Dixie Art Colony Foundation! Our day started at 9:30 am at the BIRMINGHAM MUSEUM OF ART with coffee and delicious pastries and ended with us reaching over 600 Facebook followers.

The warm reception we received at the Museum was amazing. According to the Museum staff, MORE THAN 100 VISITORS attended our Dixie Art Colony presentation. Our DAC Foundation program, part of the Birmingham Museum of Art’s 2018 “Art & Conversation” series, apparently attracted the largest audience, to date, of any of the other 2018 programs in the series.

The presentation began with an updated version of our main 15-minute video about the history of the Dixie Art Colony. The video was followed by a discussion and a 122-slide-presentation lead by Mark Harris, Founder and Director of the Dixie Art Colony Foundation.

Thank you to the Birmingham Museum of Art for inviting us to participate in their 2018 lecture series and to all that attended. We would particularly like to thank our loyal followers form the Wetumpka/Montgomery area that made the trip to Birmingham.

The BMA’s recently retired Director, Gail Andrews, will present the BMA’s next program in the series, “Alabama Made Quilts from the Cargo Collection” on September 6. The final program in the 2018 series “Contemporary Glass at the BMA will be presented by Emily Hanna, PhD on October 4. To learn more about the remaining programs in the 2018 series, visit the BIRMINGHAM MUSEUM OF ART website at ArtsBMA.org.

Our next DAC Foundation program “HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELLY FITZPATRICK” will be held on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15 at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 5375 US Highway 231 in Wetumpka. At this event, we will feature Kelly Fitzpatrick and share rare, unusual, and one-of-a-kind items from the DAC Foundation Archives.  MORE INFORMATION
